5.0Fast and undulating country carriageway, through lovely English countryside
4.0Avoid weekends if poss
4.0My favourite local route, I simply can't get enough of it. It has everything, which is its selling point to me and its always nice to stop off at the Steel Horse Cafe and chill!
4.0A44, Great Sunday morning run with good Breakfast or Brunch at Crossgates. If you need more twisty action, take in the road to Newtown and head back from there.
3.0Nice country route. Some flowing sections.
4.0A lovely road from Crickhowell A40 to A479 to Talgarth , lovely fluid & sweeping bends climbing up slowly all the time , finish in Talgarth at the Castle hotel & fish & chip shop for great value nosh .
3.0Good kind sweeping roads pretty villages and stunning Gloucester views
3.0Just something I thought others may like
4.0a circular route from coleford over to chepstow up the Wye Valley up to Monmouth and back to coleford. a great mixture of scenic, straights and twisty.
5.0B4358 between Beulah and Newbridge on Wye. You can do the route from either direction from the A470 at Newbridge or off the A483 at Beulah. This is a real swooping bendy road with crests dips and nothing to really catch the rider out. The only problem is that its only 8 miles long.If you can build it into your ride from either Llandovery cafe on to the A483 then hang a left at Beulah or from Crossgates cafe onto the A470 then right at Newbridge. It doesn't even look twisty on a map so it comes as a pleasant surprise. I bet a lot will reach the end turn round and do it again in the the direction. It truly is brilliant.
4.0this is good if you have just come over cearphilly mountain and you are looking for a good road back to cardiff. there are fast corners, hairpins and long straights. be careful of tractors at the Newport. the six bells pub is a nice stop as well.
4.0B mountain road through the Darran valley from Pant Y Maun to Gelligaer. Great scenary across the valley -just watch out for the odd sheep.
4.0Short blast through some excellent tarmacd b roads...watch out for blind bends. Stop in Talybont for a cuppa if uve been riding all day!
4.0Through the lanes in Lisvane, north through Thornhill and up over the mountain. Go when it's clear to enjoy the best of it. Laguna Seca on your doorstep!!
3.5You need a clear run to enjoy this ride as
overtaking opportunities are few at the beginning.
Starts off tight but opens-up later. Tightest bends
are signified by shell grip. Some of the more difficult
bends have seen bikes run out of road!
See ride video in the link
3.0Great views! Stop in the carpark next to the keepers pond at the top of the mountain for a great view over Gilwern and Govilon - then barrel it down the mountain - just watch out for the sheep and sharp left hand then right hand hairpins at the bottom of the hill.
Enjoy!
4.0Excellent road that runs parrallel to the road.
Ride from llantwit major to Ogmore direction for the best route - look to the left for coastal views. Stop in southerdown in the top car park for a spectacular view or ride downt he steep road to the beach and Dunraven park. If your not stopping continue along to ogmaore by-sea for more spectacular sea views.
Follow the road around and back on to the A48 for a fast blast back towards Cowbridge and Cardiff - just watch out for police on Sunny Sundays!
Enjoy!
Darren
4.0A great country road with plenty of open sweeping corners, nice tight hairpins and a few great open straights to get some speed.
Ride it a few times back and forth and youll find the places where you can open the throttle around corners and over crests.
Plenty of road signs to guide you and help you st speeds for corners. Watch out for the odd pot hole or worn tarmac. Not much traffic so get out and ride it!
4.7A nice little start into the Brecon Beacons, a short stretch with quite a few nice corners, one of many nice roads in this area.
4.0Take the A4042 all the way to Abergavenny, good straights then really goo twisty parts, stop at the Oasis cafe for a brew and a chat wit at leasst 30-50 bikers (or up to 200 on a sunny weekend). Then take the A40 to Brecon.
3.3Can be combined as part of : Leave Brecon and take the A470 south towards Merthyr branching off onto the A4059 for a a very fast twisty 11 miles down into Hirwaun. From the roundabout take a left on the A465 back east to the A470 then south again past the Merthyr viaduct all the way down past Pontypridd - great chance to open up the bike for a few miles just watch out for the cameras now and then! Take the Caerphilly exit left onto the A468, up the hill (speed camera) then right onto the A469 (mountain road) for a great little blast over the mountain topbefore home - Travellers rest pub a great place to stop for a pint and some food. Follow this road down into Cardiff centre or, like me, if you live in North Cardiff take a left just before the bridge over the M4 for a drive through lisvane lanes and home!
