One of my favourite roads, and as said before its leads to some even better riding with the A470 and A483 shortly after Penybont.
I used to travel this road a lot through work and have seen many accidents and sadly there have been several fatalities. A few miles out of Worcester the fun starts and the bends just seem to get better and better the further on you go. Road surface isnt the best in the world but the sharpest corners seem to be pretty good. Visibility through the corners can be great at times and shocking at others, and the worst thing is this is major farming land and also a main haulage route for the gravel-carrying tipper trucks so you never really know what is around the next corner. Watch out for the hairpins just near Penybont, although great fun they can catch you out if you dont expect them, they are tight.

This is one of my favourite sections of road and I will always incorporate it into a long cross country ride. The surface is pretty good and, considering it's a major route, it's not too busy, especially on a week day, though you can sometimes get stuck behind a caravan or tractor. I've never seen Police on this road, though that doesn't mean they're not there! Definitely worth a visit.

If you go a couple of miles further you get to Crossgates(biker cafe/garage)usualy people there most weekends and right thru summer most days. Then on down to Aberystwyth(bike meet on sea front most weekends).

If you want an excellent add-on to this ride, then take the road north towards Newtown, then about 1.5 miles before you actually get to Newtown, thurn right to Knighton... Spectacular road over and around some gorgeous countryside (watch out for the sheep in between the cattle grids over the top) A little gravel usually on the line, so be a tad careful. Just ride it, and enjoy., Best wishes, Dave W

Some really good open sections on what is actually a major route (hence it can be quite busy), good surface and good visibility make this well worth a look.
