Knutstorp race track, Sweden

Blekinge /Hallands/Kalmar... > Sweden > Europe
August 15, 2007 - 4 star route rating Motorcycle Road4.5

Ring Knutstorp is a relatively short race track (2.1 km) in the SW part of Sweden and relatively close to the city of Malmö as well as Copenhagen, Denmark. The track is located just north of road No. 109 from Kågeröd to Ask and just East of Kågeröd. Despite being relatively short the course is extremely interesting, challenging and... well... damn good fun! It has a number of extremely challenging combinations of turns and is pretty hilly as well. Look for a track day if you are in that area. Ride safely - but have fun...! :o)

M65 / M4 : Simons Town - Cape Point ( Lands End )

Western Cape > South Africa > Africa
August 15, 2007 - 4 star route rating Motorcycle Road4.3

The scenery is tops, the asphalt is super and the roads are winding and hilly.
The weather was brilliant when I was there end November 2004 (blue skies and ~ 25 degrees...!).
Recommendation: Rent a large trailie so that you can go down one of the many gravel or dirt roads to the beaches if you like.

A road not to be missed. Awesome scenery and excelent road surface. You can miss the Steingletscher glacier that comes just beside the road. A bikers paradise.

Nufenenpass : Valais - Ticino

Switzerland > Switzerland > Europe
August 15, 2007 - 4 star route rating Motorcycle Road4.5

Simply a brilliant biking road. Absolutely one of the must-dos of the Swiss alps. And when youre at it you should of course combine it with some of the other brilliant near-by Swiss passes: Sustenpass (2224m), Furkapass (2431m), Grimselpass (2165m), then Nufenenpass (2471m), St. Gotthard Pass(2108m), Oberalppass (2044m) & Lukmanierpass (1914m). Ride carefully - but have fun...! :o)

M6 : Cape Town - Simons Town

Western Cape > South Africa > Africa
August 15, 2007 - 4 star route rating Motorcycle Road4.0

Ride south from Cape Town on the coastal M6 (no, it is not a motorway...! :o)
Then on to Chapmans Peak Drive (still M6). (This sections was only re-opened very recently (2003, I believe). Was closed for some years due to construction work after some quite bad landslides).
Its a great piece of road - especially the fantastic Chapmans Peak Drive section - and theres not a lot of trafic.
The scenery is tops, the asphalt is super and the roads are winding and hilly.
The weather was brilliant when I was there end November 2004 (blue skies and ~ 25 degrees...!).

SS38 / Passo Stelvio / Stilfser Joch : Bormio - Prato Allo Stelvio

Lombardia/Emilia-Romagna ... > Italy > Europe
April 14, 2005 - 4 star route rating Motorcycle Road4.5

The legendary Stelvio pass, an unbelievable selection of switchbacks on the Italian side of the Swiss border that has to be seen to be believed. It's almost always very busy and so is hard to get a clear run, but this is definitely a 'must do' for all bikers at least once.

6 / Grimselpass : Gletsch - Innertkirchen

Switzerland > Switzerland > Europe
January 18, 2005 - 5 star route rating Motorcycle Road4.6

The very famous Grimselpass, a stunning combination of breathtaking mountain drop-offs and wonderful super tight corners. This road tops out at over 2000 metres and so can experience some snow. Simply terrific, highly recommended, even though it is very popular with other bikers.

ST2132 : Chamerau - Grafenau

Bayern (Bavaria) > Germany > Europe
August 14, 2007 - 4 star route rating Motorcycle Road4.0

A very nice, very scenic - and pretty fast... - mix of nice sharp turns and sweepers galore. Also many of the adjacent roads at both sides are very nice. The closer you go to the Czech border and the Sumava Mountains the better it gets. Ride safely - but have fun...! :o)

B4 : Bad Harzburg - Braunlage

Sachsen (Saxony) > Germany > Europe
August 14, 2007 - 4 star route rating Motorcycle Road4.0

The B4 is one extraordinary piece of road. If you like high-speed sweepers that is... The B4 literally is the extension of the Autobahn A395 coming into Harz from the North (Braunschweig). It is by far the quickest way to enter the Harz area. As the B4 hits the foot of the Harz Gebirge the road starts climbing the mountains in perfectly swept, very broad and attractive turns worming its way uphill at a quite steep incline. The lay-out of the road calls out for some relatively high-speed action but be very careful the first couple of kms as there are still fairly many houses along the road up from Bad Harzburg. When you reach the top at Torfhaus (approx half-way between Bad Harzburg and Braunlage) make sure to make a stop at the parking-lot & restaurant Brockenblick to take a couple of photos of Harz highest mountain Brocken (1141m) and maybe chat a bit with some of the many other bikers there. Ride carefully - but have fun...! :o)

B242 : Harz ( Münchehof - Hasselfelde )

Sachsen (Saxony) > Germany > Europe
August 14, 2007 - 4 star route rating Motorcycle Road4.0

This stretch across the Harz in direction West-East is also known as the Harzhochstrasse (Harz High Ridge Road).
As the name suggests the road runs at pretty high altitude basically on the ridge of the mountains.
It is a pretty wide road with super asphalt designed to carry a lot of trafic at high speeds. But there isn't a lot of trafic.... :o)
So it basically turns into a high-speed course with plenty of pretty high-speed, but still safe...!, action. I have several times witnessed bikers there at high speeds performing heroic knee-down action.
Beautiful...!
Ride safely - but have fun...! :o)

68 : Sydney - Thirroul ( Royal National Park )

New South Wales > Australia > Oceania
August 13, 2007 - 3 star route rating Motorcycle Road3.3

Route 68 runs from Sydney through the Royal National Park and along the Pacific coast to Wollongong. It is a very recommendable ride which varies between twisty, hilly roads in the quite deserted but beautiful park area and the luxury feel of the sweeping bends and stretches along the residential coastline south of the Park leading to Wollongong. Ride safely - but have fun...! :o)

B498 : Oker - Osterode

Sachsen (Saxony) > Germany > Europe
August 13, 2007 - 5 star route rating Motorcycle Road5.0

The B498 through the Oker-Tal is a beautiful & twisty piece of bikers heaven. In Harz in general you will find all sorts of twists and turns from the tighest sharpest-possible hairpins to very fast open sweepers. When you go there you will find out that hundreds - if not thousands... - of bikers have discovered the same thing. Great place! Ride safely - but have fun...! :o)

B188 / L188 : Kappl - Schruns ( Silvretta Hochalpenstrasse )

Western Austria > Austria > Europe
July 10, 2007 - 5 star route rating Motorcycle Road4.7

This is one trick bit of road. Simply laid-out and built for bikes! The valleys on both the Eastern & Western sides of the pass are not especially spectacular - unless you are a keen skiier and the calendar is on winter time. But the top portion - the Hochalpenstrasse - between Galtür and Partenen including the sharp descent just above Partenen is absolutely outstanding. And theres not a lot of trafic on that stretch, so you can gas it a bit. Well, a lot, actually...! Always check if the Silvretta is open before you go (usually June - October)! Ride safely! - but have fun! :o)

B107 / Großglockner Hochalpenstraße / Hochtor : Bruck An Der Grossglocknerstrasse - Winklern

Western Austria > Austria > Europe
January 23, 2005 - 5 star route rating Motorcycle Road4.6

Fantastic scenery, and the highest pass in Austria. Open May to November. Can be busy - so probably best to avoid at weekends. Very popular with bikers, but cars too. You need a head for heights and have to like hairpins too. Some nice fast stretches too. Very few hazards except the road itself: the 29 hairpin bends. Visibility is good though, and there are hardly any side roads. Jusat watch out for people gawping at the scenery. 360 views from the Edelweissspitze - stop for food and a beer there as well. It is a toll road though. Euro 17 for a day/ Euro 30 for a 30 day pass. Their stated aim is to be the most biker friendly pass in the Alps! More info here www.grossglockner.at

21 Ebeltoft - Hals

Denmark > Denmark > Europe
July 2, 2007 - 3 star route rating Motorcycle Road3.0

This is a fabulously beautiful route for a short half days ride. If you make sure to touch Randers Fiord at Voer you will ferry cross the fiord on Denmarks smallest ferry (it takes approx 3 cars and 4-5 motorbikes!) For more very interesting points: Cross Mariager Fjord on the opening bridge at Hadsund, ride through Rold Skov (DKs largest forest) and Rebild Bakker just S of Skørping. And finally cross the Limfiord at the ferry port at Egense leading over to Hals on the N side of the Limfiord. Great trip! Ride safely - but have fun!

21 Uglestrup - Sjællands Odde

Denmark > Denmark > Europe
July 2, 2007 - 3 star route rating Motorcycle Road3.0

This a beautiful stretch of road with lots of water on both sides (fiords and sea). It is also a fantastic ride though there is quite a bit of traffic as the road leads to the ferry harbour of Sjællands Odde (ferry to the peninsula Jutland/DK). In spite of the trafic it is still good fun to stretch your legs here. Ride safely - but have fun! :o)

Ledøje - Slangerup

Denmark > Denmark > Europe
July 2, 2007 - 4 star route rating Motorcycle Road4.0

Southern part of North Zealand: This area just W/NW of Copenhagen (from Slangerup in the NW to Lynge (NE), Fløng (SW) and Ledøje (SE)) is full of nice twisties of all sorts and kinds. Even if it is a relatively little geographical area you can easily find new roads worth of almost a full days beautiful riding if you plan your trip well. Ride safely - but have fun! :o)

311 Sälen - Särna

Dalarnas/Gavleborgs > Sweden > Europe
July 2, 2007 - 4 star route rating Motorcycle Road4.0

This is one beautiful stretch of nice twisties along the Västerdalälven (West Valley River) from the skiing resort Sälen in the south to Särna in the north. Ride it smoothly at a speed of 110-120 km/h (keep it at 50-ish within the small townships along the river, though!) and you're in heaven! Combine it with the route from Sälen across the border to the Norwegian skiing resort Trysil. Ride safely, but have fun!

71 / 25 Sälen (Sweden) - Trysil (Norway)

Dalarnas/Gavleborgs > Sweden > Europe
June 27, 2007 - 3 star route rating Motorcycle Road3.5

Very nice & twisty road in the mountain area on the border between Sweden & Norway. On the way from Sälen to Trysil you will pass a number of wellknown Swedish & Norwegian skiing resorts. Therefore, in the winter time it is crowded - but in the summer...? Just gas it - not much trafic will be coming your way. And not much police either. But be on the look-out, anyway. If they do come your way, they will be coming down hard on you if youre speeding. (And you should...! :o) )
