A nice and relaxing road. The traffic between Drobeta Turnu Severin and Orsova (20km) might be crowded. The portion between Orsova and Pojejena is with low traffic. It is a nice road to ride in all 3 seasons and in both directions. Make sure you plan your route so that you have the sun behind; the scenery will be more spectacular this way.
If you are hungry you can find a few nice places to eat along the way. It's better to drive here from Resita than from Moravita. At noon, I recommend you stop in Oravita at "Restaurant Carul cu Flori" (there is a LukOil gas station about 100m away). Then you can have a coffee break in Berzeasca at "Complex Egreta" right above the Danube and finally in the evening you can fill your belly at "Restaurant Taverna Sârbului" in Drobeta Turnul Severin. Here you can choose a simple hotel like Hotel Continental or you can enjoy the the rest of the evening in the outdoor pool of the hotel Riviera by Queens. Usually in the autumn I choose a hotel with some hot sulphurous baths in Herculane, but that's another story.
When I want to ride relaxed, I take as many stops as I like and a lot of pictures; sometimes I can spent 3,5 hours on this 120km route. When I prefer some action, 2 hours it's fine.
Beautiful roads and acceptable tragic in Lepsa and when you visit Târgu Secuiesc to try some gulas... is the best!
Watch out for sand or leaves on corners ... drive carefully!
It was a great exoerince after Transfagaran, on the wsy to Brasov, you should mind to ride the way passing Poiana Brasow (1E), it worth
Great day trip starting from Targu Mures (in diection of Reghin). Until Reghin it's boring and full of trafic, but then it opens and clears up. Road is good, but there are general hazards like oil spills, carriages on the road (and reckless drivers - looking at you drivers from Bucharest). After Toplita it becomes fantastic - incredible scenery, great road. Just after Borzont there's a restaurant (Basa restaurant) which serves great food in a rustic'n'authentic atmosphere.
Between Miercurea Nirajului and Sarateni the tarmac is new (about 1-2 years old), very smooth but there's gravel on the side of the road (and the occasional oil spill) - be careful. Apart from that great view and great corners. The Restaurant at the end (Ciuperca Mica) serves great food!
This street cannot be compared to Transalpina or Tranfagarasan but it is still a nice road with a lovely landscape around. The quality of the street differs: from extraordinary good to gravel to bad. But still you’ll enjoy the trip. I did this in September 2015 with a street bike: Honda CB 1100 EX.
After many bad road surface experiences in Romania it was a very pleasant surprise.
Nice rural/mountain route and one of the main acces roads to Maramures region. The scenery is pleasent and near Moisei is spectacular(the spread villages all over the mountain and in the south you can see Pietrosul Rodnei Peak).
The road surface is various from good quality aspahlt to some unpleasant undulation in the highest part(but only a few kilometers. It's a good choice insted of DN18 Moisei-Iacobeni(it's horrible, full of potholes, and undulation - accessible only for adventure bikes).
One of the best routes in Romania. Unfortunately the road works are stopped for now and the aspahlt is full of pothholes and undulations. I'll post a new review after it's finished.
A nice rural route through the northern end of Apuseni Mountains. Between Ciucea and Cizer is the most interesting part of the road with some nice corners to ride. The rest of it is a pleasent ride for views.
pros: Lots of corners, new asphalt from 2012, open plateau on top of the mountain.
cons: Pretty narrow, does not connect to any other roads so you must return.
You shouldnt miss this
Nice road, especially in the summer. Me and my passenger caught a heavy rain on the way back. Dont forget to stop at Sovata, or stay there a day or two, you wont regret.
Beautiful scenary, very good asphalt, many nice corners. Maybe a little too many villages.
The road climbs from Huedin to Apuseni Mountains through some villages(not interesting), the aspahlt quality is medium(a bit
rough for a sport bike) and the scenary and road start to be nice only after Calatele. There might be police at the exit from Huedin.
This is one of my favourite route in Romania. The quality of the road it's good for standard and enduro-touring bikes, but it's pour for speed bikes. Also, until late May some corners are full of sand.
Note : Google Map coverage does not show this route correctly, the attached films shows it correctly.
Mostly single track rising sharply through the wood with little or no run off and steep drops off the hillside this is actually quite a fun road to experience. bumpy and patchy surface makes it ideal for dualsport or supermotos. There is a monastery at the top to visit.
Fast and flowing with nice mixture of corners and
little traffic in pleasant rural surroundings and some combination hairpins thrown in!
Gravel and light off road.
lots of nice turns, no one else about, nice forest scenery. Not really suitable for bikes without long travel suspension. Quiet and scenic area.
Racetrack wide but with many solid white lines, otherwise this road would deserve a higher rating but there can be a lot of traffic in both directions which makes passing tricky (although better going uphill from north to south as there are more sections of dual carriageway). There are many nice tight corners but it is not that easy to pass the slower vehicles so it is better to ride during a quiet period.
Plenty of nice open curves and some medium speed hairpins, good surface
but there can be some traffic, otherwise fun.
Well surfaced, open, flat with great curves and very light traffic, through countryside and some small villages.
One of my favourite Romanian roads, great for the sportier rider.
Has long straight sections and because of the good visibility,
passing other vehicles is easy
Starts off with long straight sections with average surface and quite open surface quite rough on straights where it has not been renewed (there was evidence of fairly extensive renovation works that I saw). From about Carpinet south becomes a fun twisty, bumpy mountain section through foret sections. Surface is too rough to really be enjoyed on a stiffly sprung bike but on my GS it was excellent fun. There can the occasional logging truck and debris on the road but I enjoyed it a lot as there was not much traffic and the road has a very nice flow.
Nice rural section through forest with a few nice curves.
