Grik highway (east - west highway)

I used this to get from east malaysia to the North-South Expressway. Very nice smooth corners with some elevations. Careful of a herd of elephants crossing at night

Skardu road

Islamabad Capital Territo... > Pakistan > Asia
August 8, 2010 - 5 star route rating Motorcycle Road5.0

Surrounded by 6-7000m mountains the road follows the Indus river. Sheer cliff faces and villages only accessible by flying fox make this trip interesting. You will meet some trucks, but for once the drivers are courteous. Near Skardu the river becomes very wide and the bed consists of blindingly white sand dunes.

There is gas in Sassi, not far from the KKH, but I suggest filling up in Gilgit.

Note that the road is labelled KKH on the Google Map, which is incorrect.

55 : Fraser's Hill

Malaysia > Malaysia > Oceania
August 8, 2010 - 4 star route rating Motorcycle Road4.0

Road 55 from Kuala Kubu Bharu past Frasers Hill (Bukit Fraser) to Raub crosses the mountainous spine in the centre of Malaysia. It goes through forest in often very tight bends, so if blasting around fast corners on your big bike is your thing then this is probably not for you. The Western side is busy on weekends with people heading up to and down from the resort village, while the Eastern side never sees much traffic. We didn get to Bukit Fraser due to road works and a long wait. There is accommodation there - at a price. Depending on your destination this can make a nice alternative to the E8 motorway.

Doi Phu Kha road 1256

Thailand > Thailand > Asia
August 7, 2010 - 5 star route rating Motorcycle Road5.0

The area around Nan is an insider tip for Thailand travellers. There are lots of interesting and well-surfaced roads around with very little traffic. The road from Pua over Doi Phu Kha (1653m according to my GPS, 1684m according to the sign) to Bo Kluea is probably one of the nicest, if not THE best around. Near the top of the pass there is an interesting shrine and in Bo Kluea there are some interesting salt works to visit. Temengor Lake and mountains

Highway 4 between Gerik and Jeli, the Northernmost E-W route in Malaysia and the only one for miles. For that youd think it would be busy, but it isn . Great scenery, especially around Tasik Temengor and over the 1050m pass. There is NO GAS and there are no settlements, so make sure you have enough before leaving either town. There is accommodation at Tasik Temengor.
