Had a terrific 8 day road trip with the wife in the throne of my 2015 Honda Goldwing. Calgary > Kamloops > Mt Vernon > Astoria > Portland x 2 > Yakima > Whitefish > Calgary. Used the Port Townsend Ferry. Spectacular views, roads generally excellent except the National Forrest 25 and 99 (Mount St Helens area) which had rough sections (35-50 km/hr at times) but I'd do that again. Willamette Valley wine region was nice. A couple nights in Portand to rest and enjoy was a good idea. Shout out to Spin Laundry Lounge in Portland for friendly unique experience. Mount St Helens well worth the time. Mount Rainier cloudy so check weather before going to visitor centre. Longest day 750 km; shortest day 300 km. Fire prevented Going to the Sun highway on last day so went through Eureka and AB 22 to get home. Happy to answer questions. JPS
It was an amazing trip with a little bit of everything from straight to twisting roads through bright yellow fields, red woods and mountains with tons of amazing stops along the way, wild life to view and great little dinners. Once across the ferry to the island there is a whole new scene to enjoy, ocean side rides, amazing towns with goats on a roof and beautiful twisting roads with amazing cliff side views. All though there are good curving roads there are also a few spots closer to the cities that are straighter and don't provide the best views but are more than worth it for all the rest of the amazing scenery.
Planning a route for a 7 day trip from northern Alberta to Missoula Montana in June 2018
A nice run up to the mountains a good restaurant that is friendly to people on bikes. The complete loop with no back tracking roads to ride on.
During the summer months there is an icecream stand at park Lake. Lots of good restaurants in Picture Butte reasonable prices as well. A hour drive plus stop times.
A nice ride with time to stop at a few Lake villages. Traffic was not heavy.
Nice little jaunt for Sunday afternoon
nice scenery some nice curves not what you expect in Alberta reminds me a little of bc
Nice ride through Peace country
A very nice short tour in the country, pavement is very good and the sites and smells on your way are rewarding in itself...also, in spruceview there is a very good restaurant/ bar that is a great place to stop for a break...you can't miss it!!
It's about the closest you get to a ride with curves around Edmonton, and an excellent breakfast.
Start at the Tim Hortons just off Ellerslie road, south of the garden centre, then take the scenic route through Calmar and Ma-me-o Beach to 'The Village At Pigeon Lake' in Westerose. There you can enjoy a great breakfast on the patio at the ' Eco Cafe' restaurant.
After brekkie, continue around the lake and head over to Genessee, then over yo Seba Beach. On the way back, don't miss the gorgeous but somewhat bumpy 'Parkland Drive'. Work your way back into the city the pretty way and back to the starting point.
If you leave at about 07:45 am you'll be home around lunchtime.
Nice long day trip through the mountains.
Going east/north bound some views of the valley and nice hills. Really good view from top of Hand Hills looking NW and the view can be 20 miles or more on a clear day.
Beautiful summer run to Kalispell from Edmonton. Don't go too early in the year because the Road to the Sun won't be open.
Start at Calgary and head west
Head South on Highway 40 Kananaskis
Zip through Frank Slide
Cross into Montana into Babb
Head west onto Going to the Sun Road
Stop in at Kalispell
Travel North West and cross through Idaho
Travel North into BC to Creston
Continue north to Kootneay Bay
Jump on the Ferry and stop at Balfour
Head north to Kaslo then NW to Nakusp
Travel north to Revelstoke using cable ferry
Travel East through Banff back to Calgary
Locations noted are gas stops, non-existant for the last 300km, frost heaves and pot-holes, watch for bison on the road.
This is nice little trip. It has a few twists and turns.
I did this route at the end of April 2015, it was pretty cold and wet but a great ride to great falls. coming back up interstate 15 was very windy. besides some road construction just south east of Browning the roads were great with lots to see.
Breathtaking mountain beauty. 90kph speed limit that you will adhere to because you'll want to enjoy the awesome scenery! Massive mountains excellent pavement and many scenic stops along the way. Mostly untouched and oh so lovely. Not a lot of development. Definitely one of Alberta's hidden gems!
Beautiful mountain ride
Trip becomes beautiful after turning onto #533 at Nanton. Once on 533 you get into the foothills with beautiful twists and turns.
Before Nanton the #2 Hwy is flat and straight with some police presence.
Leisurely ride through the Edmonton area
Nice easy riding for test drives, some prarie view of farmland and surrounding area. Kitscoty has excellent beef jerky!!
