Wethersfield - Sible Hedingham

East Anglia > United Kingdom > Europe
June 9, 2008 - 3 star route rating Motorcycle Road3.3

This is an unclassified road which runs between the B1053 at Wethersfield (called Hudsons Hill at the start)and the Cuckoo Hill entry to Sible Hedingham on the A1017. It has the general standard of a B-road. It consists almost entirely of bends and Z-bends of varying severity. Unless you are familiar with the road, when there is summer vegetation and you are trying to make a good pace, it becomes a mixture of chagrin because you took one too slowly and bowel-loosening terror when the pussycat turned out to be a tiger. It is a very useful bridging route between the runs around Finchingfield and the Castle Hedingham to Bulmer Tye B1058 run.

B3212 : Yelverton - Exeter

South West England > United Kingdom > Europe

Loads of slowish corners through Dartmoor. Can sometimes have mud on road due to farm activity, but otherwise good.

B1104 Chippenham - Prickwillow

East Anglia > United Kingdom > Europe
August 18, 2007 - 1 star route rating Motorcycle Road1.0

This is a memorable road, not a good one - in fact any sane biker would avoid it like the plague. It is quite simply a contender for the bumpiest road in England. A report for a Fens Ride which included it commented ...the bumpiest road I have ever ridden and had our posteriors waving in the air with a vigour which would have done credit to a pole-dancer. The road surface is OK, it is just unremittingly undulating. The attraction of the B1104 is not riding it, but being able to reminisce about it for years afterwards! There is a Drainage Engine Museum at Prickwillow where you can give your bones a chance to re-seat afterwards.

B1063 : Newmarket - Stradishall

East Anglia > United Kingdom > Europe
August 18, 2007 - 3 star route rating Motorcycle Road3.3

From the central roundabout in Newmarket go East along Old Station Road and then turn left at the Ashley Road T junction. You are then on the B1083. This goes through hilly country, with enough straights to give you time to notice the scenery but principally a succession of moderately tight, but not extreme, bends. The mix of straights and bends is unusually good, and this is a well-liked road by riders of all standards. Go through Ashley Green, Lidgate and Wickhambrook (where there is a biker-friendly pub - The Greyhound - unfortunately just off this route) until you come to the A143. Turn right onto this towards Haverhill and almost immediately find the Hard Times Cafe (very popular with bikers) on your right.

B1053 / A1017 / B1058 : Finchingfield - Sudbury

East Anglia > United Kingdom > Europe
July 17, 2006 - 4 star route rating Motorcycle Road4.0

Head along the B1053 to Wethersfield, where you go straight ahead onto High St and Hudsons Hill rather than turning right towards Braintree. This soon turns into an astonishing twisty with a wide variety of bends which will keep you on your toes until Sible Hedingham. There you turn right at the T junction and follow the road round to turn left onto the A1017. After a quarter of a mile turn right onto the B1058 through Castle Hedingham, after which the road turns into a series of fast straights and tight double bends. At Bulmer Tye join the A131 or, if you liked the route, turn round and run back along it! It is a very technical route which experienced and confident riders will enjoy.
