I live in Mitta, the fine gravel is put down regularly ,to break up the frost´s. So you need to expect that the stuff could be there.The road has a bike victim EVERY SUNNY WEEKEND .I´ve see an ambulance and cop attending a crash, each time i ride it´s full length.
For experienced rider´s ,this is the best road in australia IMO
Very windy but Very long(about 80 k/s continuous )
It´s also Very isolated country.

Update... the loose stones have well and truly cleared now. This would have to be one of the best runs around. Lots of back to back S bends. A must for anyone who likes lots of corners.

Previously containing a section of gravel road, this is recently fully sealed all the way from Mitta Mitta to Omeo - and is not widely known about yet. Over the top of the ranges the last bit to be sealed is slippery (as the stones have not been swept after the sealing - as at start of 2015), but this should clear up over time. Can be a great option to return north if doing the south side of Falls Creek road.
