A very pleasant way to head east from Swindon without using the M4. There is a good mix of rural roads with good corners and straights for getting past the light traffic you might encounter. At the Hungerford end it joins a reasonable section of the A4 too, for further east-bound fun.
Not a flat-out burn - too narrow and too many iffy bits of surface - but some great slow-speed corners down here in the vale of the white horse, particularly the little complex of esses below the Dragon Hill! And you can see the white horse itself etched in the hill on the right on the way back :-)
Nice open route through Berks and Oxon to a great bikers meet. Good food and hot drinks at the H, 50+ bikes always there on a weekend day. http://www.h-cafe.co.uk/ Has regular meets and special events
A nice long run through a selection of sections on the A417, particularly nice through the Wantage area. Watch out for the level crossing on a fast stretch. Try the Trout Inn in Lechdale for a stop.
Nice hill climb up from Wantage over the Ridgway with a couple of open, uphill bends. Thereafter a good mix of straights, bends and scenary
