A really fun ride. The road approaching zig zag hill has great views. The 3081 continues after shaftsbury through Gillingham and bruton to the A371 at Shepton Mallet. It has a few dodgy spots but is still fun. The A371 south is good too.

The zig zag hill as you come out of Shaftsbury is SERIOUSLY zigzagged! Totally misjudged the first corner and ended up on the far side in oncoming traffic. Luckily nothing was there.
Needless to say, for the reaming ones I took it extremely carefully.
Be careful of car drivers coming down and coming onto your side of the road. The corners really are that tight!

This route takes in the shockingly steep and narrow Zig Zag Hill, a climb through the Prehistoric landscape at Cranbourne Chase, including a selection of settlements and ancient burial sites and the Neolithic cursus monument. Tollard Royal is also home to the not so ancient Madonna!

Zig Zag hill is a must for the locals. Be mindful of the gravel in the centre of the road at the top. This is a great piece of road.

I have ridden this road for the last 7 years and have rarely seen much traffic on it... The 'more technical' bit of the route is Zig Zag Hill - about 8 hairpin bends one after the other, which supermotos LOVE!! The only problem is passing through Tollard Royal (about 5 miles into the southerly route) where you can get trapped for a bit. A great, fast road but a relatively easy ride.

Nice twisty and technical sections just outside Shaftesbury getting a bit less twisty as it goes along. The only downside is that it can be quite congested.
