Lower Orava - Slovakia (Slovakia )February 5, 2012The route starts in near city Banska Bystrica then is goes north through Donovaly pass around 900m above sea level (mountain resort) with a nice corners on good quality tarmac, follows to city Ruzomberok then around city Dolny Kubin - nice landscape wives and also some nice corners. I have stopped at village Oravsky Podzámok where is beautiful Oravsky zámok (castle) and good places to have a coffe with cake. In Oravsky Podzamok turned back south towards Dolny Kubin where I turned to Parnica (they made fantastic sheep cheese here) - Kralovany. On this part of the trip road goes near the river through a beautiful valley with a light traffic. On your way back you will pass again Donovaly a return back to Banská Bystrica. Long way round - Slovakia (Slovakia )February 5, 2012The beginning of the route (first 60km from Brarislava)I would consider as little boring because it goes through the part of Slovakia with no mountains and just a flat farm lands. The rest is fine part around Velky KrtiÅ¡ is really nice with no cops:-). Part from Poltar to Tisovec - Vernar is really nice with low traffic standard quality of asphalt, beautiful scenery and two nice mountain passes. On the pass Zbojska - after the city Tisovec there is nice farm with the restaurant. On the way back through Tatras, mountain pass Certovica then city Banska Bystrica, beautiful historic city Banska Stiavnica (UNESCO site) an Levice you will be really tired and I recommend to take this trip for two days so you can enjoy the country you are passing. DN7C / Transfagarasan Pass : Cârtisoara - Curtea de Arges (Romania)February 5, 2012I have ride this road 2 times (2009 - 2010). For me it is one of the most stunning road to ride in Balkan with nice corners, high altitude driving (more that 2100 m above sea level, so take same warm clothes with you) beautiful landscape with mixture of true Romanian culture (sheep's and donkeys along the route). I always had a great time do ride this road, however there is about 10 km part with bad quality of asphalt and holes in it. If you will drive this road be sure to have a full tank because the petrel stations are about 120 km apart and there is no chance to buy petrol on the road - in the mountains. It is better to drive it form South to North and the last thing.... you can never be sure about the weather. |
