Colle San Carlo is quite bumpy on the north side, big open sweepers on south side.
Very nice road with lots of fine views, Marmots at the top.
BUT the northern/ western half to Colmars is very narrow, rough with subsidence and huge rain gulleys across the road, what a contrast.
Which is why I rated this road just up from St Martins to the top
Tight, twisty, covered in pine cones, almost no traffic thankfully.
Why wouldn't you cut out a large section of main road to ride this spectacular road?
Rolling wooded countryside with a glorious twisty road through the middle. Avallon is a nice town to stop the night
Some twisty mountainous sections and lots of more open roads.
Some unpaved rock tracks, so be careful where your sat nav takes you
Grande Rue (France) July 6, 2011A beautiful mix of twisty sections and mile long straights, through pleasant scenery. And it was so rural I never saw a sign for a supermarket or even a petrol station, so fill up before you start.
