A nice east-west road running through Cumbria and across into the Dales. There are some quite nice sections on this route (I can't remember specifics as it was a while since I was there), the stone walls on certain sections make it quite hard to be confidently fast in places.

It is a pretty good road, but I'm really not a fan of all the stone walls which can spell disaster at the slightest slip up.

(Sedbergh - Kendal section) A great road, 3rd n 4th mainly but at hi rev's this is what its all about. Give bank holidays a miss as the under cover cops are about.

(Hawes - Sedbergh section) Nice fast route, tripple's mostly but good empty fun roads. Watch for under cover cops. (Dark BLUE Scooby)

Slimfella and the Scot - why the problem with stone walls? ANY road has nasty things to hit - street furniture, kerbs, cars, people, houses, trees, ditches etc. Just as big a hazard really! The road is fantastic fun, I would venture to suggest if you are getting worried by the road edges then back off a little - that way you can have a little more control. Visibility is not always the best but ride as fast as you can see - and no more! Then this road (and every other for that matter) will not take you unawares. Comments re police are valid - weekdays are better, especially early morning or evenings. Advanced traing is really useful for this type of road riding. it will heighten your hazard perception skills and let you enjoy more. Don't be afraid, be informed. Ride this road from one end to the other (Kendal to Northallerton and you will have a memorable experience. Keep speed through the villages down though!

wow! I found this route through this site after exhausting all my local ones. I did it west to east and its completely intoxicating. Bedale to hawes is more open but after some beans on toast at the lovely cafe at Hawes the road goes mental, there's hardly a sniff of straight road all the way to the M6. I'm already planning on doing it again, this time west to east. This roads not for rushing, get into a rhythm and its pure bliss.

(Leyburn to Hawes Section): A lovely ride thorugh the Yorkshire Dales into Cumbria. Avoid it in the wet though as the farm traffic can make the roads very slippery. Some very fast sections, leading into the twisties. Sotp off at the Pen-y-Garth Cafe for a bite to eat and a warm cuppa and friendly to bikers.

usually ride this route west to east really good fun from Kendal to Hawes and after bacon sarnie and coffee at the peny-garth carry on but try turning right at Leyburn and follow to Ripon, this section is fairly twisty with a few staights but not many, not many cops but they may read this site so be warned.
