This was the old route to Cape Town before the construction of the 11 Km Huguenot Toll Tunnel. An amazing engineering feat. Soaring cliffs line the route.
Franschoek Pass Western Cape , South Africa April 9, 2012 - 5.0
This is a truly awesome biker road. It's great to meet up in Franschoek for breakfast or lunch and then hit the road. It starts going up the mountain, with breathtaking views from the top, really spectacular. Pretty easy bends going up, then the fun really starts when going down the other side, with...
If you start from Stellenbosch, it is slightly uphill, so depending on what you like you should either start in Stellies or end there. I usually come from Cape Town on the N1, then take the Franschoek turnoff. Ride direction Franschoek untill you get to the sign that says Stellenbosch ->. Turn right...

The weather was brilliant when I was there end November 2004 (blue skies and ~ 25 degrees...!).
Recommendation: Rent a large trailie so that you can go down one of the many gravel or dirt roads to the beaches if...
The best way to tackle this route is to start at Victoria West. You can do it from Graaff-Reinet up, but somehow its not quite the same. Start at the cafe on the edge of town in Vic West (good rugby supporters venue!), ride into town and turn right after the Excel garage onto the Murraysberg road.
The road from Outsdhoorn to Prince Albert via the Swartberg Pass is a fantastic trip back in time. Shortly out of Outsdhoorn you can divert to the pass via gravel roads. The pass was built in the 1850s by a convict gang under the supervision of a road building engineer named Thomas Bain. It is a sin...
The Baviaanskloof Western Cape ..., South Africa April 8, 2012 - 5.0
Bear in mind this is mostly a single track road, all Gravel for about 180km. It starts off with Mountainous twisty and windy roads, lots of stones and rocks and if has been raining mud patches and flowing river crossings. It goes through a nature reserve, so watch out for Kudu and other large animal...
